The MMLED Reptile UVB UVA LED is a standalone UVB + UVA1 + UVA2 light designed specifically to meet the UV needs of Reptiles and Amphibians. Suitable as a UV booster for those that already have daylight lighting and want to add UV. It has the complete UV spectrum required to keep Reptiles and Amphibians healthy and happy.

IMPORTANT NOTE 1: Do not use this UV light on it's own without a daylight light, because without daylight your animal's pupils won't dilate exposing their eyes to excessive UV light

IMPORTANT NOTE 2: This light has been designed to to produce UV along the entire length like in nature so like in the real world you should provide some natural shade in your enclosure to allow your animal to escape the UV. You can easily do this by adding some canopy and logs to produce a shaded area.

Does it produce real UV? Oooh Yeah!

UVI 6.0 @ 36cm for UVB15.0

Solarmeter 6.5 measured UVI (UVA+UVB) 6.0 for the UVB15.0 strength light at 14" (36cm) distance at full intensity making it suitable for full sun dwellers in a tall enclosure.

Adjustable UVB Output

The light is fully dimmable using a manual dial type dimmer or smart WiFi/Bluetooth controller so you can fine tune the UVB output by dimming.

Dim to lower UVB, brighten to increase UVB

For example if you dimmed the UVB15.0 to 50%, it would produce UVI 3.5 at 30cm instead of the normal UVI 7.0 when at full intensity, you can use this feature to vitually dial in any UVB level for a given distance.

Does it produce any harmful UVC? Zero UVC!

UVC meter readings show 0.00 in the lab measuring output from a single UVB LED chip at 10cm distance, and a 0.00 reading from the Reptile UVB UVA LED at 36cm distance. These quality UVB led chips produce a pure and narrow UVB band with zero UVC emission.

Ferguson Zones

The MMLED Reptile UVB UVA LED comes in four UVB strengths for Zone 1, 2, 3, and 4 amimals which roughly equates to the old UVB 2.0/5.0/10.0/15.0 UVB output scale.

A renowned herpetologist, Dr. Gary Ferguson measured different reptile’s and amphibian's daily basking sites and exposure times giving a good indication of their natural UV requirements.

These species were divided up into four different sun exposure groups, which are now referred to as Ferguson zones. Each zone was allocated a range of UV figures calculated from the readings.

So which zone is my animal in? There are many articles about this, google to find them. Here's one from the UK ReptileCentre to get you started

How to choose the correct UVB strength

If you're not sure which strength to get, use the Charts below as a guide to selecting the correct model for your animal to deliver the correct UVI to their normal basking area.

First find out which Ferguson zone you animal is classed at and the basking UVI for that zone
Then measure the distance the light will be from the normal basking area, approximate will do
Then select the UVB strength that will deliver the UVI you need to the basking area, does not need to be precise.

The MMLED Reptile UVB UVA LED has UVB light to help produce crucial Vitamin D3 and to metabolise Calcium, UVA2 to regulate D3 production and UVA1 for full natural vision and behaviours.

All packaged in one neat and sleek 30cm to 180cm long x 3cm x 2cm sealed fixture ready to plug in and go.

UVB Spectrum - wavelength 308-315nm

This spectrum is by far the most important because it enables the animal to synthesise Vitamin D3 in the skin and metabolise calcium in their body. Lack of D3 results in metabolic disorders and general health decline. No UVC from this led, the output tapers out to zero ar 304nm.

UVA2 Spectrum - wavelength 320-340nm

Scientific research suggests this narrow band in the UVA range is said to help reptiles and amphibians regulate vitamin D3 production to prevent excess D3 production.

UVA1 Spectrum - wavelength 340-400nm

It is a well established fact that the human eye has 3 receptors for colour vision and that most reptiles and amphibians have an additional fourth receptor specifically for UVA light. This additional visual receptor allows creatures to experience full vision and is also important for stimulation of normal behaviour, including appetite, mental and social behaviour, basking behaviour and Circadian Rhythms.

Rotary Dimmer

A simple manually controlled knob style dimmer with On/Off switch and 0%-100% brightness setting.

Smart Dimmer

Use the free Android/iOS phone app to control your light via Wifi from anywhere or Bluetooth for local use.

The app allows you to turn On or Off and adjust brightness or you can automate these things including Sunrise/Sunset ramping to a daily or weekly schedule.

In addition, smart dimmer features Goggle Home and Alexa integration for advanced automation and voice control.

Fully Enclosed IP64 vs Partially Enclosed

With or without the quartz glass, the lights operate the same and at a low 24V DC. Perfectly safe with or without the quartz glass cover. Consider the Fully enclosed IP64 model if your environment is wet or humid.

The Fully Enclosed MMLED Reptile UVB UVA LED is IP64 rated and suitable for use in humid environments. The quartz glass cover offers wetness protection and is crystal clear allowing 99% UV transmission.

The Partially enclosed model is the same but without the quartz glass cover, still perfectly safe and robust and perfect for those that want to save some $ and don't need moisture protection. Perfect for research organisations, shops and home use.

Is it dimmable?

Yes this lamp is fully dimmable using one of the two dimmers included in the box. Use the included simple low tech dial style dimmer with inbuilt on/off switch, or use the included hi-tech smart dimmer with free app.

The app will allow you to automate dimming and on/off settings and can even do ramp up ramp down like the Sun. Set it up and, sit back and relax and let it do it's thing automatically every day.

Is everything included in the box?

Yes everything is included, it's a complete light ready to plug in and go. Mount the light in your enclosure, connect it up, switch it on and you're good to go.

How long will it last?

This light has been engineered to pack a punch and run cool for a staggering 5+ years at 8 hours per day. Note: Excessive heat from a nearby heat lamp will shorten the life considerably. Protect the light as best possible from this heat and also provide some ventilation if you have a fully enclosed top to give your 4-in-1 the longest possible life.

Does it produces harmful UVC?

Harmfull UVC is at the 280nm wavelength and the lowest wavelength measured coming from this light is 304nm from the tail end of the UVB 308-315nm led chip so the light emits no measureable UVC making it 100% safe for Reptiles, Amphibians and people.

Does it need a lamp fixture?

No it doesn't. This lamp is already in it's fixture complete and ready to plug in and go. Mount it on the underside of your enclosure roof, plug in and you're good to go.

Can it be used with a powerpoint timer?

Yes it can be used with a powerpoint timer but there is a smart dimmer option where you can use an app to control on/off and lamp intensity and automate these things on a 7 day cycle

What should I do if I have a problem?

This lamp is designed for trouble free long term use, if you need help you can use the MMLED online chat for assistance and trouble shooting. In the unlikely event there is a fault, the lamp is covered by a 12 months peace-of-mind manufacturers guarantee and you can return it to the place of purchase for a replacement.

What type of light does it produce?

This lamp produces UVA1, UVA2, UVB and true colour visible light, a perfect full spectrum for animals and plants and will make your animal colours show like you've never seen them before. No UVC light is produced by this lamp.

What animals can it be used for?

This lamp can be used to provide full spectrum UVA, UVB lighting for all desert and tropical reptiles and amphibians.

How far away should the lamp be from my animal?

Unike other UVB lamps, this lamp can be dimmed to deliver the desired UVB levels at distances up to 180cm (72"). No need move your animal to get the correct distance, refer to the Ferguson Zone intensity chart to find the ideal intensity % to set your light at for a given enclosure height and animal

What's included in the box?

Which Ferguson Zone is my animal in?
